The FDA is refusing to regulate CBD, the cannabis product many use as a dietary supplement.

The FDA is refusing to regulate CBD, the cannabis product many use as a dietary supplement. CBD has made its way to the top of the holistic wellness industry over the last several years, but the limited research is giving scientists pause around the possibility of risks and benefits surrounding CBD products. Thanks to a “boom in herbal supplements and the spread of marijuana legalization,” U.S. CBD sales reached $4.17B in 2022, according to Statista. While CBD has seemingly made its way into everything (gummies, oils, bath bombs, nail polish, and even dog treats), the FDA is warning that “there’s no way for a consumer to know what, exactly, is in that CBD they bought at the gas station — or if it contains any CBD at all.” YPulse’s Health, Drugs, and Risky Behaviors report data shows 43% of Gen Z and Millennials say they use CBD products and a third say they’re interested in trying CBD gummies/candy.
