The RealReal says Y2K fashion is losing popularity. Using data from the last six months, The RealReal’s 2023 Luxury Consignment Report shows that typical Y2K fashion may be on the decline for young resale shoppers. While Y2K styles may have been their intro to vintage, it now appears these consumers are looking for more mature, and slightly formal vintage items—resulting in a higher search for designer names on the consignment platform. Their data shows that Millennials are the biggest shoppers on their platform, but that Gen Z upped their re-consignment game in 2022. YPulse’s Luxury data shows that Gen Z and Millennials are interested in owning luxury brands, but the price can be a deterrent for them, so resold items could be a more accessible way to buy these brands.
