Amazon is launching RxPass, a new Prime ad-on for generic drugs. In an effort to boost their Amazon Pharmacy reach, the ecommerce giant is unveiling a $5 per month subscription service that gives U.S. Prime users access to generic medications that treat over 80 conditions. For example, “Losartan (the generic for the hypertension drug Cozaar) and Sertraline (the generic for antidepressant Zoloft)” are included as well as wellness drugs for hair growth. The 80 conditions selected are meant to target a broad audience and the service itself will charge out of pocket; “RxPass is not open to people on government medical plans like Medicare or Medicaid.” YPulse research shows inflation and mental health are among the biggest problems Gen Z and Millennials say they’re facing, and giving cheaper access to the medications they need is a step to reach them.
