Yale’s popular psychology of happiness course got a makeover to appeal to teens. The course, The Science of Well-being for Teens, is aiming to teach young Gen Z how to better manage their stress, make social connections, prioritize their free time, and be more “other” oriented. The course launched just last week on the online platform Coursera and is entirely free. It uses short-form, TikTok-like videos that dive into “the misconceptions about happiness; the behaviors, feelings and thoughts that lead to mental well-being; and how to obtain it.” The course was revamped to address the teen mental health crisis, which shows alarming rates of depression, anxiety, and attempted suicide. YPulse’s Mental Health report data shows that while over half (53%) of Gen Z agrees their life feels out of balance, 85% still care about their health and being healthy. (Washington Post)
