Tarte’s brand trip to Dubai was a hit or miss for TikTok viewers, but Monet McMichael’s stardom was refreshing for everyone. Although the trip sparked a ton of controversy, namely that it’s lavish excursions and accommodations were “tone deaf” in a time of economic downturn, viewers couldn’t look away. With a variety of influencers attending, one of their videos was bound to come up on your FYP, but no one was mad when it came to Monet McMichael’s content. Her fun and conversational “get ready with me” videos make viewers feel like you’re on FaceTime with your bestie, and as a Black Puerto Rican woman, McMichael reflects the much needed diversity in the beauty content creation realm. The trip has also sparked a conversation over why nearly all of these influencers are verified on TikTok except McMichael, as one of the few women of color advertising for the trip. But nonetheless, Tarte is getting the brand exposure they’re looking for: each influencer featured Tarte products in their videos (and they posted about two to three a day). (Her Campus, HypeBae)
