“Natural birth control” advice from influencers can be dangerous.

“Natural birth control” advice from influencers can be dangerous. A University of Delaware graduate student found that on social media, a growing number of holistic influencers have been warning against the use of prescribed birth control. She found that “YouTube vloggers, in particular, produced content about their experiences with contraceptives and what’s known as natural family planning or fertility awareness methods” and as more share their IUD horror stories and other complications, some are leaving out key details that can lead to unplanned pregnancies. Young women are especially vulnerable—YPulse research shows they’re trusting influencers the most for recommendations and look to social media for wellness advice. (Mashable)
