Indie sleaze isn’t going anywhere in 2023. Indie sleaze was the antithesis to the clean girl aesthetic and its popularity isn’t slowing anytime soon. YPulse recently dished how the indie sleaze aesthetic is part of the top fashion trends Gen Z and Millennials will be leading this year. Part of the overall grunge look—which YPulse’s Fits For the Feed trend report data shows 18% of Gen Z consider themselves a part of—indie sleaze encapsulates the ability to embrace imperfectness and disheveled makeup and fashion. But the word “sleaze” itself is predicted to become the new “core”—and one editor told Vice, “Sleazes subvert their source material, making it grungier and edgier, rather than attempting to capture the purest essence of an aesthetic, the way ‘-cores’ do.” (Buzzfeed News)
