Mexican-American pop-punk band Pierce The Veil finally got their recognition after going TikTok viral. The Latinx band has been on the tour circuit for well over a decade, providing some much-needed representation in a “genre known for its whiteness” for a devoted fan base that spread the word about the group on Tumblr “in the late aughts.” But 2022 brought Pierce the Veil into a new era of recognition after Gen Z embraced their tracks on TikTok, with viral videos around “A Match Into Water” and “King For a Day” sparking trends and earning millions of views. The band has embraced their TikTok fame, explaining “Our young fans have always been our main inspiration to create new music…They are the ones creating the music culture.” They promoted their new single on the app, and invited a TikToker who went viral for dancing folklórico to one of their old tracks to perform with them on stage.
