Corona is adding an augmented reality update to their famous holiday ad this year. The Mexican beer brand is transforming their classic ‘90s holiday campaign by adding a techy twist to reach young consumers. The new campaign involves an “interactive experience called O’Tannenpalm’s Tree Lot that allows users to project a winter scene of snow and palm trees onto a nearby flat surface via their phone cameras.” Plus, a hidden element can be accessed by “placing an actual bottle of Corona beer in front of the camera” similarly to the wildly popular wine brand 19 Crimes. YPulse’s new Nightlife and Drinking report shows that the majority of young adults are not really enthusiastic about going out and drinking, so reaching them through virtual activations may be the right move for the future.
