BIPOC women experience discrimination on dating apps, making in-person dating events feel like a safer alternative.

Nov 23 2022

BIPOC women experience discrimination on dating apps, making in-person dating events feel like a safer alternative. A survey by BLK, the largest dating app for Black singles, found that 29% of female respondents don’t feel safe on mainstream dating apps. Women of color report getting messages that are racist, hypersexualized, and focused aggressively on stereotypes about their race or ethnicity. Dating events like WeMetIRL are being seen as spaces to “avoid the microaggressions” that they too often face on apps. Not only do in-person dating events provide the comfort of a crowd, and more transparency, “[t]here’s a bigger chance that the men showing up to an event are actually serious about finding a partner.” (Insider)
