Selena Gomez’s documentary My Mind & Me is receiving praise for her honest portrayal of mental health, but some fans have noticed the lack of cultural support. Upon the doc’s release, fans were quick to thank the actress, singer, and business owner for opening up and being so vulnerable about her struggles with anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder. But as fans began to share their thoughts on the film, it’s been brought to light that Gomez’s lack of cultural support in her inner circle was more damaging for her mental health. As a former Disney star, Gomez has been a role model for Latina Gen Z and Millennials for years, and on TikTok they began to question the people around her in the doc. There appeared to be “no clear Latine or BIPOC presence in her immediate team” who were mainly white, and it’s said that “persons from marginalized and minority communities are often hesitant to reach outside the familiar for assistance.” (NBC, NCR)
