Prof Jim is a new startup using artificial intelligence tech to turn textbooks into Gen Z-friendly videos. It’s safe to say Gen Z are generally visual learners: YPulse’s Self Taught trend report data shows that 86% of Gen Z would rather watch a video than read text to learn something new. Prof Jim is taking the gen’s learning habits and adapting them for the classroom by using AI to transcribe boring textbooks into videos. The AI is able to scan PDF files from textbooks and “automatically create presentation slides that reflect the material, generate a script for an avatar to read during the video, and, if requested, embed clickable quiz questions.” The process is a quick and easy way for teachers to make more effective learning tools for their students. Our Education report data shows that 81% of middle / high school students are already using online learning platforms like Quizlet, Kahoot!, and Duolingo, so what’s to stop them from using another online study aid—this time with video?
