Gen Z wants to work for companies that align with their values—and they’re rejecting ones who don’t. For a generation who grew up with grim climate reports and actively work on saving the planet, working for a company that doesn’t support the cause (or uses climate change as a buzzword) is out of the question for them. According to a new Handshake survey of over 1,800 users, “about 60% of Gen Z report they avoid applying for jobs with employers that even have a perceived negative impact on the environment.” However, this is largely a socioeconomic issue, as there are still many older members of Gen Z who can’t afford to focus on a company’s stance on sustainability. For these job seekers, focusing on other important values (like transparent salaries and mental health benefits) still comes first. Handshake’s study shows that over half of Gen Z wouldn’t even consider working for a company with a lack of diversity. YPulse’s Employment and Career Goals report data shows that 68% of Gen Z say that making a difference is extremely / very important to them when thinking about their future career. (Fortune)
