Popular Netflix reality dating show Love Is Blind is being accused of cutting out Black women. One of the most notable stars from season one, Lauren Speed, is best known for her iconic journey of finding true love with co-star Cameron Hamilton—but recently she spoke out about the show’s third season. She tweeted, “I don’t like how LIB be cutting all the black women. How come they are always in the trailer but not the show…I know it’s slim pickings but about 85% of them couples be forced (just moving forward for entertainment purposes) anyway. Y’all could at least force some more sisters to move forward throughout the show.” Love Is Blind features 15 women total, and in the third season only five are Black women. Co-host Nick Lachey, responded to Lauren’s comments by saying that while her observation is fair, the show it not manipulated to showcase more people over others. YPulse research shows that 65% of BIPOC young people agree: “entertainment media that uses mixed race groups are just doing it for the publicity.” (PAPER, BuzzFeed)
