Snapchat is launching their new Director Mode, providing users with more advanced content creation tools. New editing functions include a green screen, variable playback speed options, and dual camera for shooting a 360-degree view. Director Mode is meant to inspire more creative video making abilities for their creators on Spotlight, Snap’s TikTok clone. The platform has seen significant growth in their Spotlight viewership, reporting that it’s used by over 300M Snapchatters every month. However, the app is planning on cutting back the amount creators who are a part of their Spotlight Fund are getting paid. The idea is that the new Director Mode tools will help them create better content that generates brand partnerships on their own. YPulse’s Social Media Monitor report data shows that 9% of Gen Z and Millennials are using Snapchat’s Spotlight feature. (Social Media Today)
