Now, as the new “Chief Twit” (in his terms), Musk is giving Twitter employees an ultimatum: meet his new verification project deadline on November 7^th or be fired. The plans involve moving Twitter’s Blue subscription package from $4.99 to $19.99. A Twitter Blue subscription will now allow users to be verified and unlocks other additional features like the ability to view ad-free articles from some publishers and change the color of their home screen icon. Musk has been teasing new verification and security updates for months now, and now “verified users [will] have 90 days to subscribe or lose their blue checkmark.” For young people on the app, it’ll be interesting to see just how far users will go to stay verified—especially in a time of financial strife.
