Artistic content creators who once loved Instagram are moving away from the platform as it’s focusing on video. Creative expression used to be the sole purpose of Instagram, and many illustrators and photographers built careers through the platform. But as they focus more on ecommerce and Reels, artists feel left in the dust. Last year, Instagram’s head even made an official statement saying that the site was “no longer a photo-sharing app.” Artists who can’t translate their content into video are especially struggling and are finding that their profiles are no longer growing or receiving the engagement they used to. Now, young artists are moving away from Instagram and are reestablishing themselves on “membership-based photo-sharing apps like VSCO and Glass [while others] are exploring professionally oriented platforms like Behance and LinkedIn or other social media apps like Twitter and TikTok.” YPulse recently reported that young users are dissatisfied with Instagram and our most recent Social Media Monitor report data shows that Instagram usage declined among Gen Z and Millennials from 66% in 2021 to 59% currently.
