Aldi has opened a new ‘eco-store’ in the U.K. designed to cut carbon emissions and make recycling easier. Located in the town of Royal Leamington Spa in the U.K.’s midlands, the new store from the German supermarket chain is packed with green innovations such as recycling units, bulk refilling, sustainable building materials, solar panels, chiller doors, and green roofs. The carbon emissions of the store are about two-thirds less than a normal Aldi store. The eco-store will trial new plastic-reduction and recycling initiatives that could then be expanded in all Aldi’s stores across the country. Gen Z and Millennials in Western Europe are very worried about the climate crisis, and they see it as the biggest problem their gens are facing right now. More than that, they expect brands to step in to help fight it. No doubt young consumers will applaud this new initiative by Aldi, a brand they already have a lot of affinity for. (The Grocer)
