Instagram is de-emphasizing in-app shopping. As a top Gen Z and Millennial social app, Instagram has shifted their platform in recent years to up their ecommerce. They’ve completely reworked their feed to make shopping directly from stories, posts, and ads super accessible. But after protests to Make Instagram Instagram Again, the app is listening to its users and removing the shopping tab from the home feed. Although this effort is in its testing phase among select users, the shopping tab towards the bottom right of users’ home feeds is being replaced by a notifications tab. The ability to shop in-app is not disappearing however, it will now be moved under a second window alongside settings and saved posts. YPulse research has been tracking young consumers’ adoption of social commerce for years, and their interest in social shopping and shoppable content has grown over the pandemic. (The Verge)
