Instacart is blurring the lines between delivery apps and retail with new grocery shopping tech. YPulse’s Food Shopping and Trends report data shows that 36% of young consumers have shopped for groceries online, but they prefer to shop in-store. Instacart’s mobile shopping surged during the pandemic and now they’re adapting to consumers who are shopping in-person once again. Their new Connected Store experience “will let [shoppers] pay for items by scanning them with [their] phone.” Shoppers will be able to “sync [their] Instacart-compatible shopping list to help find items and mark them as purchased” when placed in the cart. Carrot Tags will light up electronic shelf labels to help locate items and links between departments eliminate waiting in lines to pick up deli/bakery goods. For employees, the Connected Store tech will notify them when stock is running low, which will save time on inventory checks and eliminate empty shelves. (Engadget)
