The NFL’s Spanish Heritage month tweet did not go over well. Last week, the league post a Spanish Heritage Month celebration tweet reading “Por La Cultura”—with a version of the NFL shield that includes a drawn eñe over the “N.” Unfortunately, “Nacional” does not contain an eñe. The misuse of the accent was not well received, with users “roasting” the brand’s perceived gaff as “embarrassing” and calling it a “lazy” attempt at appealing to Hispanic audiences. Responses were flooded with memes, with some adding the eñe to other brands that it doesn’t belong in (like Iñ-ñ-Out) and many posting a moment from The Office when an eñe is drawn over the “n” in lemonade for a Mexican-themed party.
