Beloved Black-owned chain Slutty Vegan has expanded to Brooklyn–and fans waited in lines for hours to get a taste. Pinky Cole started Slutty Vegan as a food truck in Atlanta, and now her vegan burger brand, which counts many celebs as fans, is expanding rapidly, with the new location in New York opening with a block party and hours-long lines. Enthusiastic attendees were “overwhelmingly Black,” and while there are many meatless burger options in New York, according to one fan, “We’re here to show support and love for this Black-owned business.” Slutty Vegan is on the road to becoming a household name, with plans to open 20 new locations this year, fuelled by $25M in funding. And speaking of that name, it’s unconventional on purpose, with Cole explaining, “We’re doing the vegan lifestyle in a different way. I’m not telling you that if you eat meat, you’re a bad person. There are no rules to this. We just want you to have a good time.” (Eater, Essence)
