Young consumers are growing tired of uncomfortable in-person shopping experiences.

Sep 19 2022

Young consumers are growing tired of uncomfortable in-person shopping experiences. YPulse’s Shopping and Retail report data shows that 62% say they prefer shopping in a physical store while 38% prefer online. But as they continue to go back to in-person shopping, they’re finding themselves increasingly uncomfortable with crowds and other annoyances, like retailers pressuring them to make purchases as they walk through stores. Young consumers’ patience is running thin, especially when it comes to long fitting room and check out lines. Retail trade experts are warning that “young people want to return to stores, but not at any price. The store complements online shopping when it offers a genuine experience and when it communicates its values.” Their expectations are running high and if they’re going to shop in-store, 18-30-year-olds in an OpinionWay survey say they want gifts at the entrance, beverages in their hands, and a free pass for queues.
