Colleges across the U.S. are making moves to address students’ climate anxiety. Many college students are seeking out help for climate change related stress—but many counselors and cognitive behavioral therapists don’t have the proper resources or training to address these problems. Colleges like the University of Michigan and the University of Oregon are creating pilot programs that meet once a week via Zoom to address such fears in a group counseling setting. The meetings emphasize how it’s important for these students to build connections with their peers and give them advice on how to talk to family/friends who don’t share their concerns. They try to help manage their grief about the environment while also placing importance on spending time in nature. YPulse’s Sustainability research shows that 64% of Gen Z and Millennials say they’ve changed the way they think about their future because of climate change. (Washington Post)
