A growing number of Gen Z and Millennials are hesitant to have children. According to a government report, the “U.S. birth rate fell 4% in 2020, the largest single-year decrease in nearly 50 years.” The reasoning behind many young adults deciding not to have children is a growing list. Many say they are fearful of climate change, posing the question, “why would I bring a child into this world when we don’t know what it’s going to look like in 20, 30, 40+ years?” While climate change poses too much uncertainty, other more straight forward reasons include inflation, large amounts of loan debt, tight abortion restrictions, and for some, a simple aversion to the idea of “germy” and “sticky” kids. YPulse’s parent report data shows 16% of Gen Z says they have no interest in ever having children. (AP News)
