ADHD content on TikTok is gaining popularity—and startups are giving young consumers (too) easy access to Adderall. YPulse research shows that social media is Gen Z and Millennials’ top source for wellness information. Because of this, more young TikTok users are being exposed to the idea that they might have ADHD. Content listing the various symptoms under the hashtag #ADHDSymptoms has over 90 million views and features creators telling viewers that if they experience more than two then they must have it. The anxiety-inducing content is sometimes misleading and has been raising alarms for mental health professionals who implore that self-diagnosing is never a good idea. The content is also encouraging startups like Done to circulate meme-ified mental health videos. Done’s providers diagnose patients with ADHD and write prescriptions for treatment that typically involves stimulants, giving young people access to Adderall in a matter of minutes. (Vox)
