This year, virtual classes are now permanent in some schools across the country. In order to protect vulnerable children, school districts in Texas, New York, and California are providing remote learning full-time. Virtual options are intended for a small minority of students that benefit more from learning online. For example, they could be chronically ill, have social anxiety, or are moving with their families. Dallas’ “iLearn Academy, which opened Aug. 15 with the start of classes, enroll[ed] about 120 students in grades three through eight.” Their schedules replicate in-person learning experiences and consist of live and pre-recorded lessons. YPulse’s recent Education report data shows that if they had the choice, 17% of Gen Z says they would want their schooling to be online this fall semester. (WSJ)
