Meta’s new metaverse ID is changing how users log into the company’s VR systems. The company is set on transforming the Meta Horizon Profile into a social media space, and they’re starting with new VR accounts and profiles. Meta Quest users will now be able to log into any Meta VR products and manage their purchased apps without having to use their social accounts through Facebook or Instagram. Meta is encouraging users to connect via their Meta account and for those still using an Oculus login, they’ll have ‘til January 1st before they’ll be required to make the switch. On top of the Meta account, a Meta Horizon Profile will replace an Oculus account and serve as a “home for all things avatar-based and be considered the social media for the metaverse.” YPulse’s metaverse data shows that 82% of Gen Z is interested in meeting new people in virtual worlds.
