TikTok is rolling out an Election Center to provide users with credible information.

Aug 22 2022

TikTok is rolling out an Election Center to provide users with credible information. The new Election Center is in response to concerns over misinformation and conspiracy on the app and is intending to include a plethora of “official updates and information, new labels on candidate accounts, and updated guidance on political ads and endorsements.” The Election Center will also provide users with information on how to vote in their specific region and cater to voters who fall under special categories like “deaf voters, overseas citizens, service members, etc.” TikTok is even incorporating a poll tracker that will update results as they come in. Although the app forbids paid political ads, paid collaborations with influencers speaking on specific issues and causes are already infiltrating young voters’ feeds. YPulse’s Celebrities and Influencers report data shows that while about a quarter (28%) of Gen Z trusts politicians, over two in five (44%) trust online influencers.
