Netflix is pushing the gamification of entertainment—but only 1% of subscribers are actually playing the service’s games.

Netflix is pushing the gamification of entertainment—but only 1% of subscribers are actually playing the service’s games. YPulse research shows that nearly two thirds of Gen Z and Millennials say playing video games is more entertaining than watching TV and movies, but maybe not when it comes to Netflix’s games. According to Apptopia, Netflix’s mobile games have been downloaded 23.3 million times with an average of 1.7 million playing daily, yet that’s less than 1% of the streaming giant’s 221 million subscribers. After a tough bout of losing nearly a million subscribers, Netflix is targeting who they consider their biggest competitors: TikTok and Epic Games. The platform currently has 24 game apps that cover a wide range of genres and shows like Stranger things: 1984 and Exploding Kittens. This year, they plan on reaching 50, one of the newest prospective games being Queen’s Gambit Chess which is based on the hit series. (CNBC)
