Parents around the world are speaking the same language when it comes to their kids.

Aug 04 2022

Parents around the world are speaking the same language when it comes to their kids. A Nature Human Behavior report recently discovered that across “410 parents on six continents, in 18 languages from diverse communities,” “Parentese” can be considered a universal language. The way parents are communicating with their children is vastly different than how they communicate with other adults. Speaking in high pitched voices, cooing, and saying something along the lines of, “good morninggg babyyy” is undoubtedly a universal experience. The report findings show that sing-songy baby talk is helping infants remember words better, and formulate sounds by observing the shape of their parents’ mouths. Parents across the world were observed adding more vowel sounds to their speech when addressing babies, creating what scientists call “the songification of speech.” YPulse research shows that more Millennial parents are watching TV/movies with their children, which is opening them up to more speech patterns and introducing language beyond their parents’ words.
