HBO’s Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin is highlighting the horrors of being a teen girl.

Aug 04 2022

HBO’s Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin is highlighting the horrors of being a teen girl. The new spin off of the Millennial-loved 2010 hit show and the OG book series is showing HBO Max streamers that there is “nothing more terrifying than being a teenage girl.” Creators of the show are hoping to drift away from the previous murder mystery vibes and focus on what it’s like growing up as a young girl instead—but Original Sin is also tapping the slasher vibes from popular ‘80s and ‘90s films, which is a super popular theme in TV right now. In this new rendition, the story centers around the “eerie, blue-collar town of Millwood, where a new group of disparate teenage girls are tormented by “A”—an unknown assailant hellbent on punishing them for the sins of their mothers, as well as their own.” With the show’s diverse female cast, appeal to nostalgia, and hints of horror, PLL: Original Sin is appealing to a new generation of liars. YPulse’s TV and Entertainment report data shows 40% of Gen Z and Millennials watch drama/horror shows regularly.
