Spotify is helping young listeners build the perfect playlist for friends. The music app’s Blend feature already combines the musical tastes of two to ten friends into one shared playlist. But now it’s getting a twist with Friends Mix, which takes the Blends made with friends to create a personalized playlist. Spotify launched the feature in honor of International Friendship Day and their data shows “11 million user-generated playlists on Spotify contain the word ‘friend’ [and] [p]laylists like Dinner with Friends, Noche de Amigas, Bienvenido a La Friendzone, Folk & Friends and Weekends + Friends continue to soar in popularity.” YPulse’s Music report data shows about half of Gen Z and Millennials are listening to Spotify regularly and over a third discover new music based on suggestions from a platform like Spotify.
