Many Millennial parents are intentionally taking a different approach to parenting. From not forcing their kids to eat everything on their plates to being more open about money, Millennial parents are choosing to change the things they think their own parents got wrong as they bring up their own families (as all generations do). But some of their parenting shifts are more significant and will have a major impact on their Gen Alpha kids. Some are saying they won’t push a “traditional college track for our children” because their own generation was sold on a college dream that didn’t come true, resulting in college debt they’re still dealing with. Gentle parenting is another large shift, with this generation of parents trying to “heal childhood trauma” with an embrace of their children’s emotions and talking about “big feelings” instead of yelling in response to tantrums and acting out.
