Instagram is now letting users shop through their DMs. Instagram has rapidly been moving away from being simply a photo-sharing app and is plowing full speed ahead into their ecommerce functions. The platform noticed an overwhelming number of buyers tend to contact independent creators and small businesses via their DMs before making a purchase. This behavior has inspired a new feature, Payments in Chat, that allows users to actually make purchases through their chats, with payments made through Meta Pay (formerly Facebook Pay). Users will be able to plug in their credit/debit cards as well as PayPal, chat with sellers, and even track their purchases via the app. YPulse research shows that social media shopping is quickly speeding up and the majority of Gen Z and Millennials are interested in shopping directly from their feeds and post/story ads.
