Gen Z is dining out less than every other gen—and restaurants are struggling to lure them in. According to an NPD Group survey, young people between the ages of 18-24-years-old are less interested in going out to eat, forcing restaurants to come up with new ways to lure them in. The pandemic hit restaurants hard and although restrictions have been lifted, young people are finding themselves in a new sort of lockdown with rising inflation rates and gas prices. Fewer people are commuting to work, leaving out the chance for restaurant discovery and there’s also the fact that Gen Z is spending on things other than food—like fashion, gaming, and other metaverse purchases. Many restaurants are now incorporating loyalty programs, celebrity meals, as well as other discounts to attract younger customers. YPulse research shows that Millennials are the foodies, and are overall more immersed in food culture than Gen Z. (CNN)
