Gen Z is “terrified” of a post Roe world, making them rethink relationships, intimacy, and hook-up culture altogether. A May Pew survey found that 75% of adults under 30 believe that abortion should be legal, and YPulse’s data shows that abortion/birth control is one of the top causes that Gen Z cares about. Now, the “subsequent lack of options” and heightened fear surrounding unwanted pregnancies is causing Gen Z to consider giving up on being heterosexually active. Members of the young gen are describing having nightmares about being pregnant without access to care, fears around “moving to Republican states,” and rethinking how sexually active they want to be now. One Gen Z woman expressed the risk by saying, “As much as I want to have fun in my 20s, what happens to me when the fun stops? What happens to me when I might be in need of an abortion and can’t access that?” Gen Z is extremely open and sex-postive, but given the new legislation, they are more hesitant than ever to actually engage in the act.
