The Toy Story spinoff Lightyear is banned in several countries for a same-sex kiss.

Jun 17 2022

The Toy Story spinoff Lightyear is banned in several countries for a same-sex kiss. After being cut from the film and later added back in thanks to Pixar’s employees speaking out, a brief kissing scene featured in a montage with Hawthorne (voiced by Uzo Aduba) and her partner is causing outrage in Middle Eastern countries who say the scene is in violation of their “media consumption standards”. Banned in Saudi Arabia and The United Arab Emirates, the film will not be released in theaters. Following Doctor StrangeEternals, and West Side Story, Lightyear is the fourth film this year to ignite controversy based on the inclusion of LGBTQ+ characters. But YPulse’s Representation in Action report found that 28% of Gen Z, who is more likely to identify  as LGBTQ+, want to see their sexual orientation represented in the media they consume. (UPROXX)
