Young people are turning to Slack to find jobs on private groups that provide a faster inside track to new roles than LinkedIn. Companies have been embracing Slack for team communication, but now young job seekers are jumping in on invite-only networking forums where they can speak to workers and gain career advice. There are “networking channels for professionals in technology, human resources, sales, recruiting and other fields…” and specific categories like women in marketing (MKTG WMN), and product instruction (Customer Education Org). By joining these industry-specific Slack groups, job seekers are receiving offers quicker than they have on other traditional application platforms, with some members reporting receiving calls within days. Hiring managers have even fast-tracked applicants through Slack since they already have a personal connection from the groups, and a better understanding of shifting fields thanks to communicating with an array of employees. YPulse’s Employment and Career Goals Report data shows 20% of 23-39-year-olds are looking for jobs on LinkedIn, and the majority are looking to Indeed, but networking via Slack, especially in the remote work era, might prove to be the next wave in Gen Z employment.
