The pre-pandemic corporate custom of paying to wear jeans on Fridays is blowing Gen Z’s minds.Remember casual Fridays? Well, Gen Z certainly doesn’t, and a video explaining the “pre-pandemmy” practice is going viral. The TikTok post by @Jordanreviewsit, which currently has over 260K views, includes the text “POV: It’s the 2010s. Your first day in Corporate America. HR just told you if you pay them $10 weekly, you’ll be allowed to wear jeans on Friday.” Gen Z quickly took to the comments to express their disbelief and bewilderment, while older Millennials have chimed in confirming this was, and for some still is, a thing, with one saying, “oh yes, it was for charity where I worked. You would buy a pass for a month that went over your badge.” One young commenter noted they don’t even like jeans and couldn’t imagine paying to wear them. The video shows how quickly office culture has changed, and how not-long-ago norms are foreign concepts to next gen employees. YPulse’s recent Employment and Career Goals Report data shows 84% of 13-39-year-olds say being able to dress casually is important to them when thinking about their career. (Footwear News)
