Netflix’s new features are helping young kids discover fresh content. YPulse predicted that streamers would be releasing more tools to help young viewers deal with content overload and help them decide what to watch. Netflix is continuing the trend with its new “Mystery Box,” similar to the shuffle button, which will allow kids to watch a preview of new (to them) content when they hover the remote over the sparkly box. Netflix is implementing this feature in hopes of introducing kids to a broader range of videos because their data shows that kids often feel comfortable rewatching their favorites. Netflix’s director of product innovation, kids, and family, took note of this issue, and said “Kids are drawn to what they love — their favorite toys, foods, songs — and it’s hard to get them to try something new.” Millennial parents have been craving more kids’ content, and now their ears will finally be relieved of Despicable Me and How to Train Your Dragon.
