Podcasts in the U.S. are expected to bring in over $2 billion this year and $4 billion by 2024. We told you about the podcasts that young people can’t get enough of, and the audio form has become so popular that entertainment companies have been releasing kid-friendly podcasts to specifically target families. It seems like the industry will only continue to explode: According to a IAB and PWC study, U.S. ad sales on podcasts are predicted to exceed $2 billion by the end of 2022, and will cross $4 billion by 2024. That means podcast revenue will grow by 47% from the $1.4 billion that was generated in 2021. According to IAB, ad sales continue to grow at a significantly faster pace than the “total internet advertising revenue market.” Digital ads grew 35% from 2020 to 2021, and news (19%), comedy (13%), and society and culture (12%) are among the podcast categories that got the majority of ad spend last year. Meanwhile, sports went up from 5% in 2020 to 11% in 2021, while true crime went up from 7% to 10%. (Variety, Tubefilter) |
