Millennial parents who frequently post about their kids on social media have more “permissive and confident” parenting styles.

Millennial parents who frequently post about their kids on social media have more “permissive and confident” parenting styles. We told you how Millennial parenting is being shaped by social media, with parents doing things like staging photo shoots for their kids and choosing products based on their Instagrammability. And according to a UCF study, parents who frequently share photos of their children on social media tend to have more “permissive and confident” parenting styles, and have their kids interact with social media at younger ages. These parents also usually share posts publicly, beyond just their small networks of friends and family. Researchers suggest that while this can lead to parents having more friend-like relationships with their kids, permissive parenting has also been linked to problematic internet usage among children—and experts suggest that parents should be vigilant about privacy issues when it comes to sharing videos and photos of their young kids.
