Blush is having a major moment in makeup—and sales prove it. Blush isn’t what it used to be. The product has undergone a major transformation in recent years, evolving from powder blush applied via your grandma’s apple of the cheek method to cream / liquid formulas applied higher up on the cheekbone to give off a “snatched” look. Cream and liquid blush formulas are all over TikTok, too, as makeup gurus offer their go-to blush picks and how to apply them to achieve a dewy look. The numbers certainly show blush’s spike in popularity: NPD Group reported a 39% increase in blush sales in 2021, with purchases of cream blush increasing 89% from 2020 to 2022 according to research from Klarna. Sephora and Ulta Beauty confirm an uptick in interest for cream blush: “Excitement for the category has only been amplified as mask mandates loosen across the country,” says Ulta Beauty’s senior director of merchandising. The boost in this category could be seen as an example of how young people are experimenting with color these days. (Glamour)
