U.K. fast fashion brand PrettyLittleThing is jumping on the resale boom with its own Depop-style marketplace.

U.K. fast fashion brand PrettyLittleThing is jumping on the resale boom with its own Depop-style marketplace. In response to criticism about “fueling throwaway culture,” popular fast fashion retailer PrettyLittleThing is launching a resale app, which will allow users to sell their own used clothing. The app will debut in the U.K. in the coming months before rolling out in the U.S. by the end of the year. YPulse’s upcoming WE sustainability research shows that young Europeans’ fears about climate change are impacting their purchases, leading them to resort to secondhand shopping—whether through shopping at thrift shops, resale platforms, or opting for rental pieces. Secondhand clothing is now a $40 billion a year industry and is expected to grow 15-20% in the next five years. And fashion brands have been quick to get onboard: Burberry launched a rental / resale platform, Prada is eyeing the space, U.S. secondhand marketplace ThredUp is expanding to Europe, and Europe’s top clothing rental platform Hurr teamed up with Depop to give retired pieces (another) second life.
