Clara is a Latina-founded, “Glassdoor-like app” where women and creators of color can address pay disparities in the industry.

Clara is a Latina-founded, “Glassdoor-like app” where women and creators of color can address pay disparities in the industry. A recent study revealed that the pay gap between BIPOC and White creators is 29%, and emerging creators of color usually don’t have the resources on how much brands should be charging them when they get approached about sponsorship deals. Christen Nino De Guzman, who previously launched content creator programs at some of the biggest tech companies including Instagram, Pinterest, and TikTok, recalled a moment where a female school teacher was getting paid around $3,000 for a big campaign, while a man in the same campaign was being paid closer to $30,000. She also saw a Hispanic creator getting paid half of what a White creator was being paid even if the Hispanic creator had more followers. Situations like this inspired Nino De Guzman to launch Clara, a “Glassdoor-like app” where creators of all backgrounds can leave reviews about the companies they have partnered with. The app debuted in January and within days of launching, thousands of creators signed up and left reviews sharing their rates and experiences working with specific brands. According to Jonny Morales, known for posting comedic videos about Latino culture on TikTok: “Christen has a heart for helping creators. This app is going to be so helpful because it shows us there’s worth in the things we’re passionate about as creators.” (Insider)
