Millennial parents are driving up the housing costs in “kid-friendly neighborhoods.”

Feb 10 2022

Millennial parents are driving up the housing costs in “kid-friendly neighborhoods.” YPulse’s No Place Like Home trend research found that lower housing costs was one of the top reasons Millennials were moving out of cities. And according to Zillow, home values are growing the most in areas where there are a lot of kids. Because a record number of Millennials will reach “key age milestones” for homebuyers in the next two years, the price gains in family-friendly neighborhoods is projected to accelerate even more. Zillow reports that the top 10% of zip codes with the largest share of kids in each county saw an average of 21.3% growth from October 2020 to October 2021, compared to 17.6% in zip codes with the smallest number of kids. Zillow economist Nicole Bachuad says: “As Millennials go, so goes the housing market, and we are seeing now, as Millennials age, that they are looking for homes that fit the needs of growing families.” (LBM Journal)
