A French nonprofit recreated Monopoly to take real-life inequalities into account. Aimed at teaching kids 11-years-old and up about the reality of income disparity, the Observatory of Inequalities and creative agency Herezie created an extension to the classic game that starts each player on unequal footing. Based on the cards you’re dealt, you may or may not start with a heritage of houses positioned on the board, and you may be limited to playing only with one dice. Meanwhile, girl characters earn less than boys. The game hopes to present “extremely serious and important topics in a playful way and in a way that makes young people want to take an interest in the issue,” according to the French minister responsible for Equality between Women and Men, Diversity and Equal Opportunities.
