“Diet” soda products are rebranding to “zero sugar” drinks to better reflect the attitudes of young consumers. Canada Dry, 7Up, A&W, and Sunkist are among the beverage brands moving away from “diet” labels and rebranding their packaging with “zero sugar” to reflect the changing attitudes young people have toward diets. Greg Lyons, the CMO of PepsiCo Beverages North America, notes, “Younger people just don’t like the word ‘diet’,” explaining how the word can allude to toxic health / wellness behaviors that young people are speaking up about now more than ever. YPulse’s cooking and diets research found that Gen Z and Millennials are making healthier changes to their diets (like going gluten-, dairy-, or sugar-free), and they’re thinking about their food / dieting habits from a wellness perspective rather than viewing food as something that needs to be heavily restricted (CNN)
