Desperate parents are using shopping bots to find this year’s hottest holiday gifts.

Dec 09 2021

Desperate parents are using shopping bots to find this year’s hottest holiday gifts. We told you what Millennial parents say the hottest toys of the season are and where they’re getting ideas from, but as the holidays creep closer and closer, some desperate parents are turning to “consumer-friendly shopping bots” to scour sites to find out when sold-out items get restocked and automatically place orders for them. The bots, which have been used by resellers and sneakerheads, are now expanding to holiday shoppers, too. SnailBot is a $99-a-month shopping bot that “crawls” Amazon’s and Walmart’s sites and selects the items that customers want, while SlapX is another popular automated checkout tool that shoppers are using. According to shopping bot developers, there has been an increase in people using their software to buy items this year—and they are chasing hard-to-find gifts like Spin Master’s Gabby’s Dollhouse, Cracker Barrel’s LED Blow Mold Nostalgic Boy Reindeer, Playmates Toys’ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Original Party Wagon, gaming consoles, trading cards, and computer graphics cards.
